Azizi Williams - Director of Communications and Community Engagement
Filling in at the last minute for Renay Blumenthal, Azizi Williams did a brilliant job of representing the Grady Health system.
Her program began with a brief history of Grady's 125+ year heritage. Officially opened on June 1, 1892, and the vision of Henry W. Grady, editor of the "Atlanta Constitution", Grady had at the time 110 beds and one operating room. Grady Health System has grown considerably since then and not stands as one of the largest public health systems in the United States.A glimpse of Grady today reveals:
- it as the largest safety-net health system in the state
- it is licensed for 953 beds handling more than 620,000 patient visits each year
- it is the largest state teaching hospital and primary training ground for Emory and Morehouse and they train military physicians and medic as well
- it's major centers of excellence including - burn, trauma, stroke and others with routinely treat patients whose conditions are beyond the abilities of other hospitals.
She went on to explain Grady's plan for the future. That plan includes a new center for Advanced Surgical Services and an expansion of Ponce Center for Treatment of HIV/AIDS
The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs extends a special thanks to Grady and Azizi for the outstanding service they provide to our community.

GA State Senator Kay Kirkpatrick, M.D. District 32 visited
Sandy Springs Rotary was paid a special surprise visit from our Georgia state senator, Kay Kirkpatrick M.D.
Kay stayed late and spoke about a few challenges she faced being a "newcomer" in the state senate.
Afterwards she took questions from the club. We all thoroughly appreciated her taking the time to stop by and say hello.
