Upcoming Program
Lindy Miller, District 3 Nominee for Public Service Commissioner

Monday, October 15th, Please welcome Lindy Miller to our club. She is our district 3 nominee for Public Service Commissioner. Come out, shake her hand, ask questions and get to know how your government works.

Lindy Miller, Democratic Nominee for Public Service Commissioner, District 3
Lindy was born and raised in Georgia. The daughter of immigrants, Lindy earned degrees from Penn and Harvard, held high positions in her 15-year business career, and started her own renewable energy company - all while raising three young boys.
When Lindy co-founded her renewable energy company, Cherry Street Energy, she traveled around Georgia and saw firsthand how communities and local economies are being held back by poor leadership at the state level. In May 2018, she won the Democratic nomination with 65% of the statewide vote. Lindy has broken fund raising records, attracted widespread grassroots support, and received endorsements from leaders all across Georgia. Lindy will be the first Democrat woman ever elected to the Public Service Commission.

This Week in Rotary
Mike Lindstrom shared with us a few stories from Quanico.

Monday, October 8th Mike Lindstrom regaled the club with stories from his 10 week FBI Academy training experience at Quantico.
Mike related to us the three pillars that the FBI has built their program around:
1.) Education. Mike took several graduate level classes across a gambit of police and investigation subject matter.
2.) Fitness. From waking at 4:30 A.M. for a mile long swim, to running the 6 mile FBI "Yellow Brick Road" obstacle course, Mike was able to burn off the calories from the phenomenal food that was served for every meal.
3.) Networking for Executives. The training academy, he explained, is an optimal place to meet, befriend and create long lasting and trusting relationships.

In the last photo you can see that the trainees had to earn their "Yellow Bricks". Mike was modest and played down his achievement, but when asked he admitted that he had earned 4 yellow bricks. Way-to-go!

Though he created a slide show for us, we unfortunately had a last minute venue change and could not accommodate the picture show. I've included 4 photos below that he later shared with me.

Thanks for all you do, Mike.
Glad you're back in Sandy Springs.

Mike was able to add these photos from his training.

A different kind of invocation

Our Monday (October 8) afternoon Invocation was a little different. Julia Bernath gave us these four quotes that reflect the Rotarian mantra.

Only a life lived for others is worth living.
- Albert Einstein

Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.
- Albert Schweitzer

The fruit of silence is prayer.
The fruit of prayer is faith.
The fruit of faith is love.
The fruit of love is service.
The fruit of service is peace.
- Mother Theresa
