About Us

Service Above Self in Sandy Springs since 1972.

We are active, involved members of this community. We meet most Mondays over lunch, hear from someone with something to say about this city, and then go do something about what our community needs.

We are a small club with a long reach, serving Sandy Springs since 1972.

What we do

Glasses so kids can read. Through our partnership with Vision to Learn and a Rotary District grant, we bring free eye exams and prescription glasses directly to students who need them. A child who cannot see the page cannot learn from it. More than 800 pairs of eyeglasses have gone to Sandy Springs students to date.

Dinner for the people who work the night shift. Each year we host three nights of appreciation dinners so that every shift of Sandy Springs police, fire, and EMS personnel gets a hot meal and a thank you.

Scholarships for local high school seniors. The Dan Keels Scholarship, administered by our 501(c)(3) Sandy Springs Rotary Foundation, has been awarded every year since 1989. Awards of up to $2,500 go to high school seniors who live in Sandy Springs and attend a high school within the city limits. Applications open in January of a student's senior year. Young people finding their footing. We sponsor Interact service clubs at North Springs, Riverwood, and Mt. Vernon, judge the Laws of Life essay contest, recognize outstanding local teachers, and exhibit at the SSEF STEAM Showcase.

Hands where they're needed. Volunteer shifts at Solidarity Sandy Springs and Community Assistance Center food pantries, music therapy for the Alzheimer's day program at Benson Senior Center, home medical equipment recycling, and support for the city's annual Veterans Day Tribute.

You do not need an invitation, and you do not need to know a member. Guests are always welcome.

We meet most Mondays at the Wyndham Atlanta Perimeter, 6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Gathering starts at noon and the meeting runs 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Most meetings are built around a guest speaker, often a city leader, a school head, or someone running a local organization worth knowing about.

Our history

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs was chartered on January 13, 1972, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Buckhead. We went on to found the Rotary Clubs of Dunwoody and Emory–Druid Hills.

Four Rotary District 6900 Governors have come from this club: Frank Bentley Sr. (1983–84), Ralph Thurmond (1990–91), Barry Smith (1995–96), and Jim Squire (2019–20). The club has been named Club of the Year multiple times and Club of the Decade for 2011–2020, and has partnered with Leadership Sandy Springs for more than thirty-one years.

Dan Keels was a beloved member of this club and Chaplain of Northside Hospital. He gave extensively to this community and inspired everyone who knew him. The scholarship that carries his name was established in his honor in 1989 and has been awarded every year since.
