Our three honored speakers are: (in alphabetical order)

Jennifer Auer Jordan (Left photo) (pronounced Jer-Dun) was first elected to represent Georgia State Senate District 6 in a highly-competitive special election in 2017. An attorney who specializes in complex civil litigation, Jennifer runs her own law firm with her two law partners. Jennifer graduated magna cum /aude from the University of Georgia School of Law where she was an Editorial Board Member and Articles Editor for Georgia Law Review and a member of the school's award winning National Moot Court Team. After graduating, she served as a federal law clerk to United States District Court Judge Anthony A. Alaimo. She was also named to the Order of the Barristers (for outstanding oral advocacy) and the Order of the Coif (recognizing law graduates who graduate in the top 10% of their class). Originally from Eastman, Georgia, she moved to the Atlanta area to begin her law practice in 2002 and has lived here ever since. She is a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2008 and is the past-President of the University of Georgia's Law School Association Council. Jennifer is also a Master with the Joseph Henry Lumpkin American Inn of Court. She has been named to Georgia Trend Magazine's "40 Under 40" list that recognizes Georgians "under 40" who "will lead our state's commercial, cultural, academic and governmental institutions into the future" because of her work on behalf of Georgia consumers. She has also been chosen as a Rising Star, a Georgia Super Lawyer, and as one of Georgia Trend's Legal Elite. In 2013, Jennifer was recognized by the University of Georgia as one of its "40 Under 40" alumni who "have made an impact in business, leadership, community, educational and/or philanthropic endeavors." Additionally, Jennifer was recognized as one of the "40 Under 40: Rising Stars" for 2014 by the Fulton County Daily Report, the leading legal newspaper in the State of Georgia. Since 2016, she has been recognized by Georgia Super Lawyer's Magazine as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in the State and one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in the State. She currently serves on the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia. She is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, as well as all other trial and appellate courts in the State of Georgia. She lives in Atlanta with her husband, Lawton, and their two children, Lawton and Cokie.

Senator Kay Kirkpatrick, MD, (Center Photo) a Republican, represents the 32nd District, which includes East Cobb and Sandy Springs. She serves as a member of the Health and Human Services, Public Safety, Science and Technology and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committees. Senator Kirkpatrick has been an orthopedic hand surgeon in Atlanta for over 30 years and was previously the president of Resurgens Orthopaedics. Senator Kirkpatrick is a district coordinator for the Medical Association of Georgia's Medical Reserve Corps. and is determined to contribute to Georgia's ability to respond to disaster and emergency situations. Dr. Kirkpatrick is a consultant and lecturer on patient safety in surgery. She is also a member of the East Cobb Rotary and she serves as a team leader at the Ronald McDonald House where she participates in pet therapy through the Happy Tails Pet Therapy Program. Senator Kirkpatrick graduated from the University of Kentucky and earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville. Her husband Tom is an emergency physician. She and Tom have two young adult children. Kay and Tom are active members of East Cobb United Methodist Church.
Deborah Silcox (Right photo) is an attorney, a mother, and a community activist. She grew up in Sandy Springs and graduated from Riverwood High School. She subsequently earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and went on to finish her law degree from Emory University School of Law. Deborah practiced law for ten years and gave up partnership to raise her family. During this time, she served on the boards of The Junior League of Atlanta, The Atlanta Speech School, Hands on Georgia, and The Chastain Park Conservancy. She was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve on the Department of Human Resources Board as well as The Governor's Commission For Volunteerism and Service. Governor Nathan Deal chose Deborah as Chairman of The Governor's Commission for Volunteerism and Service. For over twenty-eight years, Deborah has been married to Dr. Hal Silcox Ill. Deborah and Hal have two grown children, Elizabeth and Hal IV. Elected in 2016, Deborah currently serves as State Representative for House District 52. While in office, she was named "Legislator of the Year" in 2017 by the Georgia Ophthalmology Society and earned a Health Policy Certificate from Georgia State Health Policy Center. For her work in the 2018 legislative session, Deborah has been named a "Champion of Georgia's Cities" by the Georgia Municipal Association. Deborah serves on the Health and Human Services, Non-Civil Judiciary, and State Planning and Community Affairs Committees in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Last Week at Rotary
Richard Yarbourgh - "God lights my way."

Last week Richard Yarbrough, syndicated newspaper columnist, entertained the Rotary club members with what must have been five jokes in the first five minutes. Then he continued throughout his presentation poking fun at our political system. Richard was making a joke when he stated over and over that "God lights my way." I'll not give away the punch line since you had to be there, but needless to say his humor and controversial satire left the room laughing and wanting more.

Richard likens his writing style as somewhere in between Mark Twain and HL Mencken. He is a Southern philosopher, political pundit and straight-shooting humorist all rolled into one. Seen weekly in nearly one million households throughout Georgia, his column is an artful mix of comedy and candor that leaves readers amused, inspired or enraged, but always engaged!
